Ethnocentric blog post

Ethnocentricity causes conflicts when people are not willing to embrace the differences between the two cultures. In the documentary, "The First Australians" the British thought of the Aboriginals as savage people because they didn't wear clothes. Since the British wore clothes, it made them act judgmental toward the aboriginals by calling them savages, because the aboriginals didn't wear clothes. Another example of a difference between the two groups of people is skin color. The British had never seen people that looked like the aboriginals which was very surprising to them. The surprising effect made the British judge the aboriginals farther because they thought the aboriginals were aliens. The British than acted in an unfriendly manner toward the aboriginals which led to conflicts such as skirmishes over little things. Even though the British were ethnocentric people, the aboriginals did not act racist toward the British. The aboriginals were very open about their thoughts and accepted anyone's culture's differences. This made the aboriginals dislike the British because they judged their whole race before they met many people of their race.
In the movie "Rabbit Proof Fence" the British took the half aboriginal children and sent them to a camp to change their behavior. The British judged the aboriginals even more because they thought they could change the ways of the savages when they are young. The aboriginal men and women fought back in attempt to protect their children but they were unsuccessful. In the end, the hatred between the two cultures grew and grew, but this hatred could have been prevented easily. The hatred could have been prevented easily if the two cultures acted friendly toward each other, not hostile. If the two cultures had acted that way, there would have never been a dispute between the two cultures and there would be harmony.

Julius Caesar: Solo/duet performance Assessment blog post

Act one Scene 1 Lines 33-76. Flavius and Marullus. Partner: Nick F

What happens in lines 33-76 is that Marullus and Flavius are scolding the citizens about praising caesar. After the scolding, Flavius and Marullus think of a plan to rid of Caesar.

This passage is very significant about the play because it introduces the stupidity of the normal people of Rome. According to Flavius and Marullus, the citizens of Rome highly respected Pompey as their leader. Pompey's words were what the citizens payed most attention to, but, until Caesar killed him. As soon as Caesar killed Pompey, the citizens of Rome turned their backs on the ideas and words of Pompey and than began following everything Caesar said. This shows the stupidity of the Roman citizens, because of how easily they change their minds without putting much thought into it.
Also, another reason why this passage is so significant to the play is because it introduces government official hatred toward Caesar. It is clearly stated in Act one Scene 1 that the two government officials, Flavius and Marullus hate Caesar because of the ingenious ideas they have thought about.

Learning Profile: L

A few humanities classes ago, an interesting test was performed on me. This test was to discover how I learned the best. We were instructed to test ourselves to find our dominant eye, ear, hand, and foot. After all of these tests took place, we were informed about two different types of "thinkers". The two types of thinkers we were informed about were "gestalt" and "logical". In my situation, i was all right side dominant, and a gestalt learner. By adding all these factors up, i ended up discovering I was a "L" profile learner.
After discovering what type of learner I was, I received a sheet telling me how I learn the best.

My profile sheet said that I will only learn best with movement. I would have to agree with what my result says, because I have the tendency to fidget with my legs while going into something deep in discussion, or anything that requires deep thinking. Also, the result sheet says that i need to move to process things internally with minimal external stimulus. I also agree to this result, because whenever I try to write a paper at home, I always try to write it with music playing. However, whenever I get into deep thought, I require peace and quiet to complete the paper because it tends to distract me.

My profile sheet also states that I need quiet time alone to integrate new ideas, especially under stress. Again, I also agree with the profile sheet. This is because in several past experiences, I have tried to grasp several concepts. However, I failed every time because I was always under stress. On the other hand, I tend to grasp concepts much faster and easier compared to when I have been stressed.

One way that I could improve my learning was to take the intiative in guiding my way the profile sheet is telling me too is to talk to my teachers. By talking to my teachers, I hope they learn that I am a profile "L" learner and that I need to get up once in a while and walk around before continuing to the next part.

In conclusion, I believe that this class that was spent to improve the learning of the kids in ISKL middle school. By doing these tests, I could definetly tell the school is interested in improving the welfare of the kids. The tests on discovering the learning profiles was definetly accurate as well. These facts also improved my self awareness in learning and will probably benefit me in the future.
